Taking Care of Your Teeth The Healthiest Way Possible
When you see your child smiling, your heart melts. Just like any loving parent, you wish to always keep this beautiful smile healthy and bright, and that’s where our caring team comes in.
Not to brag, but our team is just great with kids! We have been working with children for years and we are passionate about making sure that children have a safe and enjoyable experience at the dentist.
We believe that the experiences a child has at the dentist will largely impact the way they view going to the dentist as an adult. This is why we take extra care to ensure each child feels safe, comfortable and has fun appointment learning about their teeth!
Maxwell Dental offers comprehensive dental services for children of all ages, from infants to teenagers. Amongst other treatments, children's dentistry appointments usually involve:
- Fluoride-Free Treatments
- Jaw Growth Assessment
- Preventative Dental Care
Kids teeth are actually different than adult teeth. Unlike adult teeth, baby teeth have a very thin, and relatively soft outer tooth enamel that protects the tooth from decay. Adult enamel is very dense and rich in minerals, making it very hard, and more naturally resilient to cavities & decay.
Children’s teeth don’t have that same level of protection, which makes them much more susceptible and at higher risk of tooth decay. So that’s the first thing you should know before beating yourself up over your kids having cavities. Unfortunately, it is extremely common.
The other thing to remember is that kids often snack more frequently throughout the day than adults. This can also make it easier for food to get lodged in spaces between the teeth causing tooth decay. It also goes without saying that sweet treats have an especially negative impact on the health of baby teeth, especially when left too long between brushing & flossing.
When should I bring my child in for the first time?
The general rule of thumb for bringing a child in for the first time is 6 months after they get their first tooth, or around their first birthday. This first appointment is what we call a "happy appointment", this is because there isn't a lot of dentistry that goes on. It is mostly to introduce the child to the office and get them used to the sounds, smells and sights of a dental office. This is beneficial for eliminating the fear of going to the dentist as they age.
What is a holistic approach for children's dentistry?
At Maxwell Dental, we won't only look at the traditional treatments for your children, having a holistic approach means we will also look at the various natural remedies and alternative treatments that can be just as effective. We will make sure you understand your options and that you can get the treatments that are right for your family.
HOLISTIC DENTAL EXAMS
During a dental exam, your Maxwell dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth while checking for cavities and gum disease. The dentist or hygienist will also evaluate your risk of developing other oral health problems, as well as check your face, neck and mouth for abnormalities.
For all dental emergencies, it’s important to visit a dentist as soon as possible. Our dentists reserve time in their daily schedules for emergency patients so be sure to call Maxwell Dental and provide as much detail as you can about your condition.
Are you looking to improve the look of your smile? We can help. Cosmetic dentistry not only helps with the look of your smile, but can help prevent bacteria from building up in troubled areas.
At Maxwell Dental, we have found that dental implants are truly able to enhance the quality of life for our patients. Dental implants can improve our patients’ overall health, while helping them gain the confidence that comes from a well-functioning smile that looks good and feels natural.
Ozone therapy can aid healing through safe and topical disinfection. It sterilizes all aspects of the tooth, even into the smallest canals and tubules.
root canal extraction
A root canal is a treatment used to remove the pulp in the canal of the tooth and replace it with an inert material. Although this is not a treatment that Maxwell Dental performs, it is important to understand the benefits and the risks of the dental procedure.
