During a dental exam, your Maxwell dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth while checking for cavities and gum disease. The dentist or hygienist will also evaluate your risk of developing other oral health problems, as well as check your face, neck and mouth for abnormalities.

What can you expect during this 2 hour 40 minute exam?
To get the ball rolling, your dentist will get familiar with you and your medical history. Each person is unique and knowing your medical history will allow Maxwell Dental to understand you and how to approach your dental treatment in a way that is right for you.
During this first exam you can expect to have our professionals go over the following with you:
- Blood pressure
- X-rays
- Digital photos
- Periodontal charting
- Bacterial slide
- Velscope (oral cancer screening - optional)
All of these aspects will create your profile here with us, allowing us to know you inside and out! In this initial exam we will also be examining your mouth to check for bite and jaw problems, evaluate your risk of tooth decay, root decay, and gum or bone disease and determining if there is a need for treatment. Finishing with a hygiene cleaning we will then go over all photos & x-rays with you so you fully understand the state of your oral health. A holistic approach to dentistry means that a dental professional considers the connection between overall health and oral health. When imbalances or issues are found in the body that connect to oral health, a dentist with a holistic approach will be able to offer natural remedies along with modern dental treatment.
